Palm oil mill to be set up in Mizoram soon

Aizawl (mizonews.net): Mizoram will soon have an oil palm mill to boost the state’s economy. Director of 3F Oil Palm Ltd. company Sanjay Goenka from Hyderabad had a meeting with Mizoram Agriculture Minister H. Liansailova in the latter’s office here yesterday to discuss the issue.

“They discussed about establishment of Oil Palm Mill in Mizoram, besides various propositions for improving Oil Palm cultivation in the state,” official sources said.

At present, 3F Oil Palm Ltd. supervises the Oil Palm cultivation in Aizawl and Serchhip Districts, and the site for Oil Palm Mill has also been finalised at the bank of Mat River.

Rs. 25,00,00,000 lakhs has been earmarked under RKVY Scheme for palm oil industry. An order has also been placed for the machine and the foundation stone will be laid at the earliest, they added.

In the mean time, 3F Oil Palm Ltd said it could not provide enough seedlings for Aizawl and Serchhip Districts for which the company deeply regret. However, Goenka said that an arrangement is being made to meet the target next year.

Goenka and Department of Agriculture (Crop Husbandry) Director Dr. C. Lalzarliana today visited some of the Oil Palm cultivation lands in Thenzawl besides inspecting the proposed sites for Oil Palm Mill (Factory).

Farmers can harvest oil palm seeds 3-4 times a year and a bunch of oil palms weigh nearly 30-35 kg. They will be able to sell the seeds to private organizations at Rs 4.75 per Kg from which edible oil is produced.

Over 3000 families are engaged in oil palm cultivation across Mizoram of which nearly 850 are in Kolasib district.
