New Delhi (Mizonews.Net): The mood at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi was unlike any other on November 30 evening as supporters of Hmar FC and KSL FC try to outdo each other while the players fight it out on the ground.

Hard work and persistence on the part of the Hmar FC players who were drawn from all corners of the country yielded result in the much hard-fought battle for the 7th North East Tamchon Football Tournament tittle. Scoring a blank against KSL’s one goal before halftime, the Hmar FC return to the field and put up a good fight to take home the trophy with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.

The match covered live by Doordarshan Sports channel highlighted the intense atmosphere under which the Hmar FC and KSL teams had to play. At some stage there were few exchanges of words between the players on the one hand and between the referee and the players on the other.

The Hmar FC is a team sponsored by the Hmar Students’ Association Delhi Jt HQ. The student body has produced excellent teams year after year under various names like the HSA FC, Sinlung FC and Hmar FC.

This is their fourth time in the finals.

The heroes of the evening match were Dhanjoy Joute who netted two goals and Ngurneilal Hmar who put in one goal for the Hmar FC to crush the KSL 3-2.

The Tamchon Football Trophy is organised by the Thankhul Naga Society, New Delhi, and sponsored by various central ministries like the Ministry of Youth Affairs, DoNER and the North Eastern Council.

“This victory is historic achievement for the Hmar community as we have been among the topper each year but missing the opportunity to lift the trophy,” Hmar Students’ Association leaders told Mizonews.Net.

Social networking site Facebook is abuzz with congratulatory messages from across the country and going by majority of the comments, the victory appears to bring back a sense of unity and brotherhood within the Hmar community members in New Delhi which witnessed a bitter feud in religious administration months before.

According to organisers at least 22,000 spectators gathered at the Dr BR Ambedkar Stadium to support their favourite team.

Despite both teams being equally talented the game went to the Hmar FC players despite KSL FC dominating the first half of the match with one goal to nil.

Hmar players scored 3 goals in a span of 15 minutes. KSL FC fought back and manged to net one more goal. But, it was too late for an equaliser.
