Legal Aid Clinic set up in Aizawl

Aizawl (mizonews.net): To the help of the poor and the uneducated, a new Legal Aid Clinic has been opened here in Aizawl.

People will be to seek legal advice and enquire any information they required regarding legal activities.

The new Legal Aid Clinic, established at Aizawl District Court by Aizawl District Legal Services Authority (ADLSA), was inaugurated last Friday.

T.Saikunga, District Judge and the chairman of Aizawl District Legal Services Authority, who conducted the inaugural function of the new Clinic, said that the “Clinic is established for the poor and the needy, who needs legal advice and other related information from the lawyers”.

“The workers at the clinic need to work with sincerity,” he said.

The member secretary of the Aizawl District Legal Services Authority (ADLSA), Marli Vankung said that the clinic was established as per the plan of National Legal Services Authority. She also said that it is being planned to establish in every districts in the state.

Marli further added that such clinics could be established even in rural areas, provided there are workers who could be trained and placed at such rural areas, as lawyers may not be easily posted in such area.

She also informed that the new Legal Aid Clinic at District Court building will be looked after by two lawyers. She also informed that a legal clinic has already been set up in District Jail, Armed Veng, Aizawl. Yet other clinics could be opened up in other localities within Aizawl District, Marli added.
