Home Minister meets MZP, YMA, Muslim leaders
Aizawl (mizonews.net): Mizoram Home Minister R. Lalzirliana today called on leaders of MZP, YMA and Muslim associations here in the city over rumours of impending attacks on North East people in different parts of the country following the Bodo-Muslim clash in Assam.
The Home Minister held a meeting with the MZP and YMA leaders at 12 pm informing them that while measures are being taken for the protection of Mizos and other North-East residents in different cities of the country, there are some people who has the habit of flashing distorting message on the internet. “Such messages can hurt other feelings and which can in turn creates tension for their fellow Mizos and other North-Easterners,” he said.
He also asked the MZP and YMA to keep vigil on such people and inform them to stop their acts in view of the prevailing tension.
“Officials have been instructed to take necessary steps to prevent untoward incidents,” he said.
Lalrinmawia Ralte, Parliamentary Secretary i/c Home Department, Home Secretary and top Police officials were with the Home Minister in the meeting.
The Home Minister also held a meeting with leaders of Muslim Association in at 1:30 in the presence of top Police officials. Home Minister in the meeting asks the Muslim Association leaders to help checking the spread of the violence, and asks them to take necessary steps in asking their fellow community in other parts of the country to cooperate in ending the violence.
In order to check that no untoward incidents happen to the people of North-East, the Home Minister even suggests the Muslim Association leaders to communicate to their fellow community members through SMS. If the violence does not calm down it may even be unsafe for them too, the Home Minister informed the Muslim Association leaders.
Ethnic clashes most harmful for the country therefore it is necessary that every people cooperates in bringing peace, the Home Minister said.
In the mean time, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has sent a letter both to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan apprising them of the impending rumours of threat to North East people especially the Mizos in cities like Mimbai, Pune, and Hyderabad and asks them to ensure protection of the Mizos.
The Chief Minister in his letter asked his counterparts to take necessary steps “before it is late so that no untoward incident occurs.”
As reported earlier, Chief Minister Lalthanhawla had already spoke to the Prime Minister and Karnataka Chief Minister yesterday on the same issue.
