Aizawl (mizonews.net): Mizoram government officials have been asked to take “utmost care” in collection data for effective governance in the state.
Finance minister H. Liansailova attending the 6th Statistics Day at Aijal Club here said this while highlighting the importance of statistics as the offshoot in designing any development infrastructure.
“Without and statistics, no infrastructure can be designed; therefore, the workers in this field should execute their tasks with utmost care and concern. In estimating the agricultural products and our status in and in other fields, we need to base on Statistics,” Liansailova said.
Further stating that since most of the projects in Mizoram have been designed without proper basis on statistics, the minister said many such schemes have failed. “Often the fund received and the expenditure in different projects are not in balance, as a result of which a number of projects are not successful in Mizoram; this shows the need to base on reliable statistics,” he said.
Statistics Day has been observed since 2007 in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Father of Modern Statistics Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis annually and the theme of this year was “Industrial Statistics.”
As of now there are 1,555 industries registered under ‘The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006’ in Mizoram.
The programme of the Statistics Day today was conducted by Saihlira, Director, Economics & Statistics; while the Finance Minister released the four books published by the Department: – Statistical Abstract 2011(published every alternate years); Hospital Statistics 2011, and Meterologival data of Mizoram, 2011 (published every year), and Annual Report of Birth & death, 2010.
