MNF accuses Chakma council officials of burning important documents

Former Chief Minister and MNF president Zoramthanga addresses mediapersons at the party’s office in Aizawl on June 25, 2012.

Aizawl(mizonews.net): “All the important documents related to the Land Revenue and Settlements department dating back to at least 33 years which were kept at the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) office was reduced to ashes to erase the fake documents relating to a compensation in Indo-Bangladesh border fencing,” said Mizo National Front (MNF) president Zoramthanga yesterday during a press meet at the party’s headquarters here in Aizawl.

Zoramthanga also accused CADC officials and their relatives of “eating away Rs 11 crores” which was meant for the compensation to the people who lost their land for the Indo-Bangla border fencing.
“The CBI is now probing the matter,” the former chief minister said.
Zoramthanga also said that CADC Executive Committee had “issued an order to erase the documents including files, registers, receipt books from 1972 to 2005 which was signed by CEM Kali Kumar Tongchangya”.
“All important documents were burnt on August 17, 2010,” Zoramthanga claimed.
Stating that  this issue was a black spot in Indian history and for the state of Mizoram, Zoramthanga said he will meet the governor for immediately action to punish the culprit.
The MNF leader also said that this was not the end of the “crime”. “All important documents which have been stored in  computers were also erased,” said Zoramthanga.
Another order was issued to collect the documents of the people to submit their documents within 15 days, Zoramthanga told mediapersons while asserting that the case is “very serious crime.”
However, when asked if the MNF was accusing the Congress government, Zoramthanga said: “The Mara Autonomous District Council is controlled by the Congress and you know who is responsible or not.”
