MPC asks Mizoram govt to utilise fund properly

Aizawl (mizonews.net): One of the opposition parties of Mizoram, the Mizoram Peoples’ Conference (MPC) has while lauding the Planning Commission for allocating Rs. 2300 crore for Mizoram has asked the state government to “utilised it properly” for development of the state.

The MPC said Mizoram Fund has been increased to 35.29 % while there was a 44% increased for Meghalaya this year.

However, the MPC party criticised that the North Eastern states for “weak” in utilising the fund for developments, stating, “only 58.44% in 2008-09, 74.12%in 2009-10, 42.88% in 2010-11, and 55% in 2011-12 out of the total fund had been utilised for developments.” “This fact is mentioned by the Union Minister Mukul Wasnik when he visited Shillong, Meghalaya on 19th May 2012,” the MPC said, adding,  “Recently in Assam, the major opposition parties AGP and BJP blames the ruling Congress Government for utilising only 44% of the fund allocated by Planning Commission and even held an agitation rally against it.”

The MPC party also asked the Mizoram Government to utilise the fund (2300 crore) allocated recently by the Planning Commission in a proper way and to prepare “Priority List” for the benefit of the public while urging  all the Secretaries and Directors of Departments under the State Government to utilise the fund received both in the category of Plan and Non-Plan, for Infrastructure Development.

“If this is done (proper usage) there should be no repetition as that of a huge amount – Rs 70 Crore being  lapsed in 2009-10,” the party said.
