Aizawl/Lunglei (mizonews.net): At a time when there is an increasing number of crime against women in Mizoram, a Lunglei district court seems to have taken a rather cooler approach to the issue.

A Myanmarese national who was arrested on charges of rape in 2009 has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment.

Usaw Phia alias Zorambela of Hmawngbu in Myanmar was found guilty of outraging the modesty of the victim from Lunglei whose name have been withheld to protect her identity.

Lunglei District and Session Judge Lucy Lalrinthari while sentencing the accused also ruled that since the convict has already served three year term, those years will be counted.
