JAMMU: we all know that this is the time for Amarnath yatra in Jammu. Every year by this time the Amarnath yatra will be held, but for this time the Amarnath yatra has been suspended today due to closure of the Jammu – Srinagar National Highway in the wake of a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Udhampur district of the state.
National Highway of Jammu – Srinagar Blocked Due to Landslide, Amarnath Yatra Suspended:
Many pilgrims visit Jammu and Kashmir to see the Amarnath temple and the Amarnath yatra where the idol of lord shiva is present. We can see the idol only in this period of time. After that the place will be closed. This is considered to be a miracle, so many devotes visit this place every year and offer their prayers.
But this time due to heavy rain landslide was triggered, this would be dangerous for the pilgrims. So for the safty of the people who visit Amarnath the suspended the Amarnath yatra.
“Due to heavy rains, a massive landslide closed the 300-km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Kheri in Udhampur district late last night,” SSP Traffic National Highway, Sanjay Kotwal said.
The authorities have also suspended the Amarnath yatra from Jammu base camp, he said. He also added that the other traffic was also not allowed on the highway.
Sanjay Kotwal also said that, the men and machines of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are working to clear the landslide and the highway is expected to reopen by this evening. Some vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway, he added.
