Aizawl (mizonews.net): For the first of its kind in Mizoram, a diagnostic machine for a disease of high pressure of eyes (glaucoma)- Humphrey Automated Perimetry- which costs Rs. 11 lakhs has been placed at Civil Hospital, Aizawl and is opened up for use from 25th June 2012.
On 23-25 May 2011 the All India Community Opthalmologist Conference was held at Aizawl where, of six villages from southern part of Mizoram – Melthum, Melriat, Muallungthu, Hualngohmun, Falkawn and Aibawk, a glaucoma survey was held. Out of the 500 people diagnosed 270 were found infected with the disease; even 2 of those were already blind.
At the time of the survey, there was no Hum-phrey Automated Peri-metry in Mizoram, which the Eye Specialist doctors very much feel concerned. They instantly informed the government of Mizoram about the need, and in response of that health minister Lalrinliana Sailo takes necessary initiatives due to which the machine is now bought and placed for use.
The new eyes diagnostic machine which is placed at Civil Hospital Eye Ward was inaugurated by Hospital & Medical Education Director, Dr.Lalrinliana Sailo for use of all.
Before, many people having the glaucoma disease who needed to diagnos by this machine had been referred to other states, but now it is available at Aizawl Civil Hospital which will really helps many people in the state.
