No power supply in Kolasib; new transformer to be installed

Kolasib (mizonews.net): Mizoram’s Kolasib has been hit by power crisis for the last three days and the issue has been taken up by the government.

P&E Parliamentary Secretary Lalthanzara said on Wednesday that a new transformer would be installed.

“The new transformer- 3.5 MVA would taken from Aizawl to Kolasib today,” he said.

The main reason for the transformer failure is said to be “too much use of electric heater by the public” following the scarcity of cooking gas in the district along with the entire state for the last two months.

The use of electric heater led to transformer overload which resulted in the destruction of the transformer, he added.

The government’s appeal to the public not to use electric heaters through the Young Mizo Association in every localities and also via local newspapers has met cold reception.

“What does Chief Minister Lalthanhawla cooked his food with? He and his cabinet members should first lead with an example,” said an agitated homemaker Sangzuali.
