The Zofate (Mizo) community in the United States is all set to mark the 43rd death anniversary of ‘Mizo Poet of the Century’ Pu Rokunga (1914-1969) at the Chin Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, on July 15.
The acclaimed Mizo poet who has continued to inspired the people with his vivid imagination and composing skills died on July 12, 1969 and he was named, “Mizo Poet of the Century (1901-2000)”.
“We believed Pu Rokunga deserved respect and the event we hoped will be an important milestone for Zofate,” the organisers said in a statement.
The event will showcase songs of Rokunga, the stories behind his lyrics besides releasing a CD collection of the songs composed by the noted poet.
“We will also distribute booklets of Rokunga besides collection of donation that will go towards Hlakungpui Mual in Mizoram,” the statement added.
The organisers have invited all Zofate from across the United States and rest of the world to be a part of the event.
“Despite some criticisms we feel that we this must be done overlooking such issues. We want many Rokungas to come up among the Zofate and we will continue to honour them to,” the organisers opined.
