Rengkai/Manipur (mizonews): Jeremia Lalnunzir s/o Lalnunsang of Saikawt in Churachandpur district of Manipur succumbed to his injuries on January 16 after he was allegedly beaten by local hostelers of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Hostel.

Lalnunzir was rushed to Shija Hospital but was declared brought dead.

According to sources, Lalnunzir who represented Churachandpur district in the State Level Under 14 Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament, 2012 was beaten up by some SAI Hostel inmates at his Khuman Lampak Hostel in November last year.

“There was an altercation between the locals and some tribal hostelers and the SAI hostelers went to Khuman Lampak Hostel and beat up Jeremia who had nothing to do with issue,” the source said.

The local police admitted Jeremia to a hospital and after he was discharged, Lalnunzir treated at his house in Saikawt. But as his conditions became critical again and he was taken to the Churachandpur District Hospital on January 16 where the doctors referred him to RIMS in Imphal who in turn referred him to Shija Hospital.  Lalnunzir, however,  succumbed to his injuries on the way at around 11:40 am.

Sources said that Lalnunzir complaint of pain in his head, chest, kidney and liver.

According to sources, a FIR has been filed at the concerned police station but so far none of the culprits has been arrested.
