Anti-dengue campaign begins in Mizoram

Aizawl (mizonews.net): The State Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (SVBDCP) has launched the first ‘anti Dengue’ campaign here during a function held at I&PR Auditorium yesterday.

The event was attended by Health and Family Welfare minister Lalrinliana Sailo, Aizawl Municipal Councillors and members of various organisations.

Lalrinliana while expressig his gratitude over the initiative of SVBDCP for launching such a programme, said that although the disease has not been reported in Mizoram other diseases from mosquito bites are a big problem. “So, our duty is to take every possible steps to keep our body safe from the contact of mosquitoes,” he said.

Dr. F. Lallianhlira, Jt. Director (Malaria) also spoke  on the symptoms and prevention from Dengue.

The National Vector Borne Diseases Programme (NVBDCP), under the Cetral government has added Dengue and Chikungunya programme, besides Malaria for the task of SVBDCP Mizoram for 2012 – 2013. Although Dengue has not been detected in Mizoram, yet the vector mosquito has been found which necessitated starting the Dengue programme.

Since Dengue spreads mostly during and after rainy season, the month of July has been declared as ‘Anti Dengue Month’ by NVBDCP. The NVBDCP has asked the state government and public to take all possible steps to prevent Mizoram from contagious Dengue disease.
