Aizawl (mizonews.net): Alleging corruption in utilization of the fund received from University Grant Commission (UGC) for college development, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) has filed an FIR with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) against Hrangbana College Principal K. Liantuala.
The MZP in its FIR accused the principal of misusing the fund in addition to the fund being lapsed. “We request the Anti-Corruption Bureau to carry out necessary investigation so that action may be taken against the culprit according to law,” the student body said.
Alleging that the huge fund received from UGC for the development of the college has been misused, MZP President claimed that the expenditure submitted to the UGC Accounts officer, according to which: Rs. 125,000 had been spent for construction of basket ball court, whereas Hrangbana College has no basket ball court till now.
“Rs.5,00,000 for purchase of sports materials was shown, while actually sports materials are bought from Students’ Union fund; Rs. 1,00,000 for upgradation of college library, but no work is seen; Rs.2,00,000 for construction of new class rooms, but there’s no new class room; Rs. 4,00,000 for books, magazines, journals but none is seen in reality; and moreover, while fund has been received for construction of urinals for girls, no new urinal has been constructed so far,” the MZP claimed.
The students also said that while some materials were bought by the college using UGC fund but the prices are extremely high.
“One Laptop Computer was bought at the cost of Rs. 1,00,000; TV, Fridge, and Washing Machine cost Rs. 1,20,850; Printer and Xerox copier cost Rs. 63,500; and a generator cost Rs. 5,20,000,” they said.
Meanwhile, K. Liantuala said that the 1st installment of the UGC fund that had been spent is all audited and accepted by the auditors; and the 2nd installment is not yet utilized and is now kept in the bank.
