Merger of Assam villages with Mizoram impossible: Boundary Committee

Aizawl (mizonews.net): Even if the 56 villages of Assam want to merge with Mizoram, it is “impossible”, said Mizoram Boundary Committee chairman C Chawngkunga.

Report from local media here quoted Chawngkunga as saying this in response to query that 56 villages of Assam wanted to merge with Mizoram if they were given passes for paddy field.

“This is impossible. Not only that a land cannot be allotted to other community in Mizoram, but even with entry permit they can only stay in Mizoram for 10 days. Therefore, to let them stay permanently is not possible in any way,” he said.

Mizoram Boundary Committee is  yet to visited two straight lines – Terabonia – Vaihmite along Bangladesh and Mizoram boundary and Midili and Farlongalong Cachar, Tripura and Mizoram boundary. Other boundary lines have been inspected.

The Boundary Committee after visiting the different Mizoram boundary areas will prepare a report which will be submitted to the government.

“On the basis of this report the state government will take necessary steps,” sources said.
