Governor Vakkom Purushothaman inaugurates Anthurium Festival at Reiek Tourist Resort on September 20, 2012. 

Aizawl (mizonews.net): The 2-day Anthurium Festival 2012 was inaugugated with much fanfare here yeasterday at the Reiek Tourist Resort by Governor Pu Vakkom Purushothaman.

“Mizoram is one of the most beutiful and peaceful state and it can become God’s Own Country of the East for tourists,” he said while adding that people come to know more about the state through anthurium.

He lauded the efforts of the Tourism Department for organising the festival which he said will be a “big draw” for tourists.

Speaking on the occasion KVI Chairman Pu K Lianzuala said it was because of the “hard work of the farmers” such events have “become successful”.

“The Tourism department is proud of the farmers for their efforts,” he said.

Several entertanment items were presented among them were traditional dances by Mizo Cultural Organisation, Lai Cultural Troupe, Mizoram Gorkha Youth Association  and Chakma Cultural Troup.e

Some of the well-knnon Mizo singers also took part in the event.

Besides, there are several games organised for kids and stalls selling handloom and handicraft products have been set up at the Assam Rifles ground.
