Aizawl (mizonews.net): The Mizo National Youth Front (MNYF), the youth wing of the main opposition party, yesterday accused the Lalthanhawla-led Congress ministry of “neglecting its people” who voted the party to power for “not informing before hand the increase in taxes and bills” of various departments.
The latest attack comes in the wake of the the recent hike in power tariff by the government.
The MNYF also called the Congress government “a cheap regime” for “not having any power” to check the hike in electric bill across the state.
Chief Minister Lalthanhawla had said on August 1 that the electric bill per unit will be increased by 30 paise from the current rate of Rs. 3 per unit since the rate is governed by the Joint Electricity Regulation Commission.
When the state government was planning to hike the electric tariff last year, it gave the notice that electric consumption below 50 unit will be charged extra 5 paise but it was charged Rs. 1.50; 10 paise for below 100 unit but it is Rs. 1.20 and so on when the new bill was implemented.
In this regard the MNYF accused the Congress of cheating the people of Mizoram by making “fake promises and plans”.
The youth front also asked the Chief Minister to make a clarification on his statement and asked the govt to reimburse the consumer who pays higher than the said tariff.
