Mizoram Economic & Statistics Department opens office in Serchhip

Aizawl (Mizonews.Net): The Economic & Statistics Department of Mizoram has opened a new office in Serchhip. It  was inaugurated at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday by Lalkhama IAS (rtd.), Vice Chairman of State Planning Board.

Lalkhama said that there are many people among the Mizos who do not yet know the importance of Statistics, and stressed that “Statistics is in fact the source of development for the State”, adding it is on the basis of the various data and information collected that development plans are formulated. He also added that Statistics is the main basis of developmental works for a State.

Even regarding the State administration, it is important to have a good information and statistical data, and to make useful of them thereof, State Planning Board Vice Chairman further said.

Serchhip District DC Juhi Mukherjee IAS, who also addressed the inauguration programme, said she was happy over the very fact that besides the earlier Districts – Aizawl, Lunglei and Saiha, Economic & Statistics Office is first set up in Serchhip District.

She continued that Serchhip District being not a big one and with small population, therefore if there is any systematic developmental plans, and moreover with the opening up of office of Economics & Statistics Department, more development works could be carried out and that too in faster manner. She also spoke of her plan to take greater steps to materialize this possibility.

For purpose of Economics & Statistics Office, the building owned by V. Thanhranga at Serchhip AOC is being occupied. As the State government has arranged the plot for the office, work for construction of the Office building will be started at the earliest.
