Aizawl (mizonews.net): Amidst of the ongoing students’ agitation against the “shortage” of teachers, mainly in Mamit and Serchhip districts where classroom doors have been shut, the Education Department said on Wednesday that it was aware of the “inadequacy of teachers” not just in the two districts, but in other parts of the state.
“The state government acknowledges the fact and is therefore working to solve the problem,” the department said.
The Education Department’s explanation for the current crisis are:
Conditions in Mamit:-
1. Transfer of teachers from Mamit SSA to other District: An investigation is being done by Education Department. As per report, there is a lone teacher in Phaizau Govt. Primary School, and 2 teachers in 2 schools – Dampa Zodin UPS and Zonuam UPS. In the school where there is only one teacher, 1 Special Trainer and 1 Assistant Trainer 1 will be posted. And, in the two schools where there are only two teachers, 1 Assistant Trainer each will be given. This plan will be finalized within the month of August 2012.
2. Govt. Mamit High School: The school has 117 students but is without a headmaster; the senior most teacher Lalnunzami, B.A., B.Ed. has been taking the charge of Headmaster. Besides, there are only 5 teachers. In the case of H.Zosangliana, he was transferred as was requested while S.P.Singh M.A., B.Ed. is now transferred from Tawngkawlawng H/S to Govt. Mamit H/S, the official Order for the same has also been issued.
3. Govt. Mamit Higher Secondary School: There are 100 students, 45 students in Class XI, 55 students in Class XII. Under regular Principal, there are 2 Lecturers in English Dept., 2 Lecturers in Mizo Dept., 1 Lecturer in History Dept., 1 Lecturer in Education Dept., 2 Lecturers in Geography Dept., 2 Lecturers in Political Science Dept., 2 Lecturers in Economics Dept. in the Govt. Mamit HSS.
Considering the above report, the condition of Govt. Mamit HSS is not that worse comparing to the overall condition in the state. Moreover, Lallianvungi of Education Dept. who got transferred recently, is to be transferred back, the order for which is expected to be issued before 10th August 2012.
4. Govt. Mamit College: (a) From the 5 Mizo department lecturers, 2 (in attached) have been transferred to Hrangbana College out of necessity. Meanwhile, K.Zochungnunga was transferred from Zawlnuam College to Mizo Dept. in Govt. Mamit College, besides H.Malsawmdawngliani Part-Time Lecturer of Mizo Dept., was transferred to Govt. Mamit College too. Hence, 3 Lecturers are there in Mizo Dept. of the college; (b) 6 lecturers in Education Dept. and 1 being attach to Hrangbana College; (c) 6 Lecturers in Political Science Dept. and 1 each attach to Aizawl West College and Hrangbana College; (d) 4 Lecturers in History Dept., 3 Lecturers in English Dept., 4 Lecturers in Economics Dept. with 1 attach to Hrangbana College.
“In the mean time, opening up of Public Administration and Geography Dept. is all about policy matter, because of which the plan could not be fulfilled as of now due to lack of fund in the state government,” the department said.
After the transfer of History teacher Daisy V.L.Biaknungi from Serchhip Higher Secondary School, P.C.Lalruatzela of RMSA has been temporarily attach; now process is being completed by the state government to post a new teacher on contractual basis.
The teachers under Education Department are in the same condition with other Department workers, therefore they are not given appointment to remain permanently in one village or District. Rather, the state government can give them transfer to any place when and wherever necessary. Besides, the Mizoram provides teachers for every village as per requirement, and also keep vigilance over them all the time, and keep planning for the progress of education in the state.
