Mizoram govt bans selling of drugs to minor

Aizawl (mizonews.net): Concerned with drug abuse by Mizoram youths leading to a number of mysterious deaths over the last few days, medical experts met with Food and Drugs Control officials to discuss the issue.

The meeting was chaired by Health Services Director Dr Ramfangzauva and a notification was issued at the end of the meeting.

Pharmacies have been informed not to sell medicines outside the limitation as per drugs license and not to sell any kind of drugs to children and to any one in school uniform. “Violators will be penalised,” the notice said.

“The drugs being misused in recent times by youths are not that of intoxicant, but are drugs for common diseases like common cold and for pain relief; the very reason that it led to death is believed to be due to overdose and due to mixture with other drugs which produce deadly effect,” the notice said.

The drugs abused by youths are more dangerous when mixed with grape wine, because the chemicals present in the grape used to affect the function of liver and even lead to liver and lung failure, it added.

Maintaining that all drugs can produce bad effects to the body, Food and Drugs Control Wing said: “It is important that people take drugs under medical supervision and as per instruction of dosage.”
