Serchhip (mizonews.net): For the third day on Monday, Mamit’s Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) has shut down educational institutions – from High School to College in the district to press their demand for more teachers.
“If there is no immediate response from the state government Mamit town area will also be forced to to shut down,” MZP leaders said.
Students of Government Serchhip High School also organized a rally in Serchhip town.
As reported earlier, since August 2, government educational institutions-3 high schools, 1 higher secondary school and 1 college – in Mamit town area have been closed down due to the student’s strike organized by MZP.
The students are demanding more teachers in the respective institutions. The institutions will remain closed till August 8, they said.
According to leaders of stduents body, if the state government does not respond to their demand they will picket all the Education Department offices within Mamit Town Area. “If the state government does not respond by August 8, we’ll take more drastic action,” they said after a meeting a held here today.
Meanwhile, in Serchhip town, the demand more teachers and to condemn frequent transfer of teachers, students of Serchhip Government Higher Secondary School organized a rally from their school premises at P&E Veng to Serchhip Bazar. Around 300 students participated in the procession.
MZP Hqrs. Serchhip Vice-President and the school Students Union President said that they want regular teachers but not RMSA teachers to be posted in their school. At present, there are no Education and Mathematics teachers in the Government Higher Secondary School.
