MNYF continues protest against water law

Aizawl (mizonews.net): Copies if the Mizoram Water Supplies (Control) Amendment Rules, 2011 were burnt by the Mizo National Youth Front (MNYF) near MNF Office against the “steep” hike in water bill.

MNYF president PC Laltlansanga said they do not object to hiking water bill or any other taxes but strongly objects the steep hike as it is against the interest of the common people.

He said that water bill was hiked in the month of February and was opposed by various organizations and political parties and was cancelled by the Congress government making a lame excuse by saying it was a technical problems. In this connection Congress Youth also made a statement that cancellation of hiking water bill was due to the “kindness” of Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla to the people.

According to the  Mizoram Water Supplies (Control) Amendment Rules, 2011”, Notification No.G.25022/1/200-PHE, the 22nd September, 2011, Chapter 6, Amendment of Rule 7 (23) ,  the department must supply water at least once a week to the consumer, and if the water is not received by the consumer less than 2500 litres, the department must returned the bill by 50%  of the bill. If there is a month while no water was distributed to the consumer, the department will cancel the bill.

Laltlansanga said the government has violated the its own law. “This is the reason why they burnt this useless rules,” he said.
