Aizawl (mizonews.net): The Mizo National Front youth front (MNYF) has slammed the ruling Congress government for hike in water bill which comes in effect from August.
“The hike in water bill amidst of crisis in water supply is disrespect towards the people,” the MNYF said.
Ridiculing the Congress government, the front also asked Chief Minister Lalthanhawla government to clarify on whether it uses the money received from water bill, electric bill and life time road tax for New Land Use Policy (NLUP) Scheme.
The MNYF further said that the Congress government had planned the hike before the election of local councils and village councils, but it was afraid it might lead to their defeat. “So they dare not proceed with it but even cancel the order. Now, only after election, the plan is carried out without any information to the public,” MNYF claimed.
The new bill, according to MNYF, is Rs. 300 per 1000 litres as against Rs. 100 earlier. “If the Congress government is not ashamed of its act in increasing water bill at the time of water crisis, and increasing electricity bill at the time of power crisis, this shows that it is not concern with peoples’ welfare,” MNYF said.
