Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls’ launched in Mizoram

Aizawl (mizonews.net): Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls’ (SABLA) has been launched in three districts of  Mizoram- Aizawl, Lunglei and Saiha.

Following this, Social Welfare Department organised Peer Leaders Training at Venghlui Central Hall today, where experts gave training to the selected leaders for the scheme.

Conducted by CDPO, Urban ICDS Zoramthangi Chhangte, members present at the training were given instruction on topics like -‘Balance of weight and height of body’, ‘Knowledge of one’s body’, ‘Sex and HIV/AIDS’, ‘Who am I? ‘Knowing one-self’, and ‘Decision Making & Leadership Qualities’.

Under this scheme, adolescent girls will be provided and folic acid medicines for protection from anaemia at Aganwadi Centres. Besides, they will also be given instruction on health, nutrition, family maintenance, self confidence to face the world. The scheme also envisages training those who left school education in order to bring out their skills for their economic source.

Adolescents of the age range 11-18, whether student or not, are all covered by the scheme. Such adolescents shall be divided into Group, from which Peer Leader will be selected, and such Leader (Sakhi & Saheli) will gives instruction to their friends. Under Aizawl Urban ICDS Project 11,591 adolescents have been registered for this scheme.
