Compensation to SC/ST victims hiked by 150 per cent
Aizawl (mizonews.net): A slight alteration has been made in the Annexure I and Annexure –II of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and its related Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995.
The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in a letter the Social Welfare Secretary of Mizoram stated that the amount of compensation to the victims as per Annexure -I has been increased to 150% on average. And, the explanation regarding physically challenged issued on 6.8.1996 in Annexure-II has been changed with slight alteration to 1.6.2011.
The amendment being made has been done as per the provision of sub-section (1) of Section 23 of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995 itself.
