Aizawl (mizonews.net): The felicitation programme of Mizo women international boxers who bagged Gold and Bronze medals in July this year in Serbia was held at I&PR Auditorium yesterday.
The programme organized by Mizoram Boxing Association (MIZBA) was graced by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla who expressed his happiness at the “success” of Mizo sportpersons.
The boxers who were honoured are Lalenkawli, Lawngtlai (48 Kg) Gold Medalist and Lalruatfeli, Edenthar,Aizawl (57 Kg) Bronze Medalist at the Golden Glove of Vojvodina International Sub Junior Women Boxing Tournament, Novi Sad, Serbia and Vanlalduati, Ramhlun, Aizawl (51Kg) Gold Medalist & Best Boxer at the 4th Inter Zonal Women National Boxing Championship, held in Vishakapatnam.
Lal Thanhawla handed over Rs. 20,000/- to the three boxers- a token of appreciation given by Mizoram State Olympic Association to any sportsperson who represents the country.
The Chief Minister said that it was great achievement that there are Mizo youths of international fame, and added that the state government “is taking steps” in creating a new world for the youths.
He also lauded the cooperation of various sports associations and sports administrators as a result of which the youths “are successful” in various sports disciplines.
“We may think that our neighbouring state Manipur is far ahead of us, but are not lagging so far behind. We should take as a challenge that they could sent sportsperson representing the country in the ongoing Olympics,” the Chief Minister said.
Stating that sport administrators have great responsibility in order to build a bright future for the strong and determined youths, the Chief Minister urged the officials to work harder. “There should be no partiality in selection of sportpersons,” he told the officials.
