In a game like Twenty20, bowling is as much important as batting, especially when the batsmen domination is more in leagues like Indian Premier League. The think tank of Gujarat Lions is thinking the other way around by adding more batsman to the already strong batting lineup, instead of focusing on the weak bowling
The think tank of Gujarat Lions is thinking the other way around by adding more batsman to the already strong batting lineup, instead of focusing on the weak bowling department where the teams’ weakness is exposed clearly in the last two debacles.
With back to back defeats and that too in the initial games of the tournament, Gujarat Lions must have learned that a mediocre bowline-up won’t be helpful anymore in order to make their way to the playoffs. This is the era of flying balls, big bats and short boundaries with an innovative strokeplay and hence the importance that is given to the bowlers is utmost.
So, needless to say, that a bowling unit is a must priority. Even in the previous season, the bowling line up of Gujarat Lions looked thin and they were missing a bowler who can take wickets quickly and put pressure on the opposition. Like said above, the team’s decision to go with four overseas batsmen isn’t working and you can’t give chance to more than four foreign players in the playing eleven. It is due to the poor bowling line-up, Mumbai Indians could chase 183 and restricted to 135 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second game.
Bowling Panics Both The Teams
As Gujarat Lions are going to take on, on Rising Pune Supergiants, the think tank of Gujarat Lions is likely to make changes in their bowling line-up by considering the previous record of failures the team has been with. To do this, they might probably put overseas batsmen out of the eleven and bring a bowler. Praveen Kumar has been good with his bowling adding his street smartness to his spell, Dhawal Kulkarni, Basil Thampi, Tejas Baroka, Manpreet Gony and other bowlers have struggled in the matches so far.
There is a tad worry for the think tank of Gujarat Lions about their batting line-up. They are very much depending on the batting of Suresh Raina. They had no answer for the spin of Rashid Khan in the last game with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Jason Roy’s weakness against the spinners has been exposed very badly and he is expected to kept away from the final eleven in the upcoming match against Gujarat Lions.
Supergiant too, to some extent, are suffering from the same problem. It was Steve Smith’s batting masterclass that saved them the blushes against Mumbai Indians but their bowlers had very little to offer in their massive losses against Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab.
Ashok Dinda, Deepak Chahar, Adam Zampa haven’t inspired the same confidence that Imran Tahir has, while Ben Stokes too, has failed to set the stage on fire. It’ll be interesting to see which bowling unit bounces back on a venue that’s full of runs.
Supergiant has a similar problem with their batting and bowling. Except in the first game where the captain Steve Smith has played a vital role with his batting, the rest of the team has failed miserably in batting and bowling is also not as strong as the other teams to compete them and restrict the score.
Ashok Dinda, Adam Zampa and Deepak Chahar haven’t been inspiring with their performances. Only Imran Tahir could bring some impact and pressure on the opposition. Expensive Ben Stokes have failed miserably to set the fire on the team and he needs to bring more value to prove his value at the auction. It’ll be an interesting game between both the teams to see which side will win the game with the strong bowling units.
