Aizawl (mizonews.net): Mizoram Sports Minister Zodintluanga told the state Assembly that the state government was “careful” in purchasing sports materials. “It is only after verifying the brand, price and the company, the materials are ordered,” he said.

In reply to Lalrobiaka, the minister said: “For promotion and development of contact sports, the state government allocates promotional fund every year and sports material are also bought besides arrangement being made for training. For Contact sports particularly, construction of stadium is also proposed.”

Minister also said that a play ground has been constructed at SAI Complex for boxing, judo, wrestling and taekwondo.

“SAI Centre is also open in Lunglei and sportsperson are given free accommodation in the hostel. Construction of hostel near LDSC Ground No.II is also expected to be completed soon,” the minister said.

Practice ground has been prepared for judo and wrestling at Ramhlun Sports Complex, and building for Muaythai in the land of the Association has been constructed.

“The process is on for construction of play ground for Taekwondo at Kolasib with the fund received fro DoNER.”

Besides, Republic YMA Hall for Wushu, electric YMA Hall for Taekwondo, Venghlui Central Hall for Karate are taken on rent for the training sportspersons, he added.

Stating that was no separate boxing hall in Aizawl, the minister informed that the same will be constructed at Ramhlun Sports Complex. “As promised by the Chief Minister, boxing ring has been given to each district,” he said.

The Minister also mentions that some sportsperson of Contact Sports gets into professional career outside the state; and many had entered joined military, he added.
